Destination Colorado Focus On Boulder

Destination Colorado Focus On: Boulder – 25 Square Miles Surrounded by Reality
By Andrew Heidt, Senior Group Sales Manager at Visit Colorado

Boulder, Colorado is ready to show your group the experience of a lifetime! Our mission is ensure you and your guests have the ultimate Colorado experience. Boulder is unique in that it has a small town urban feel in a spectacular setting, tucked in the foothills of the Rockies.

Boulder feels a lot like a resort – active lifestyle; drop-dead gorgeous scenery; trendy, intimate, historic downtown; nationally recognized chefs; and vibrant night time scene. But you don’t have to drive through wintery mountain roads to get here. You may not be aware but we are just 40 minutes from Denver International Airport (DIA), making Boulder a convenient choice for attendees flying in from around the country. It’s only 10 minutes farther to Boulder than to Denver from DIA. Shuttle transportation or rental cars are a piece of cake – we realize how important these are to your attendees.

The best deals can be found in our value season – November through April. Our winter weather is surprisingly mild. Boulder is at the base of the mountains, right where the Rocky Mountains meet the plains, so it’s not a super snowy destination. This past December, Boulder was named one of the “5 Great College Towns for Winter Enthusiasts” by US News and World Report. And in Jan. 2011, National Geographic Traveler named Boulder one the “Top 10 Winter Towns.” Both of these illustrate that even in the winter, Boulder is still a desirable location. Some people think that the winter skies are even bluer than during the summer months.

Looking for something different?  Three of Boulder’s best assets – food, scenery and weather – come together for Boulder’s Farm Dinners and give meeting planners a chance to create an unforgettable event. Meeting attendees will never forget sitting outside, seeing the garden, hearing a passionate chef talk about the carrots he picked earlier in the day and eating at dusk by candlelight. It’s the quintessential Boulder event.

Here’s what I mean by food being one of Boulder’s best assets – Boulder was named “America’s Foodiest Town” in Oct. 2010 by Bon Appetit magazine. We’re home to the winner of the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southwest, a Top Chef winner, the state’s best farmers’ market and half of the state’s Master Sommeliers. Not too shabby for a town of 97,000 people!
